Handicap Service
If you have already activated your account, click here to post your score in GN21.

The USGA Handicap System is the method that best allows golfers of all abilities to compete on an equal basis on any given course. Your handicap index is figured according to a mathematical formula and is based on your score, as well as the length and difficulty of the course you play. Your handicap index reflects your playing potential because it is based on the best scores over a given number of rounds, ideally the best 10 scores of your last 20 rounds. However, you only need 5 (18 hole) scores to establish a handicap index.

As a member of EWGA you receive access to the Golf Life Management System (GLMS).  This is a USGA approved web based handicapping tool.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Is a Handicap Index Required?

While you are not required to maintain a handicap index, you are encouraged to do so. Handicaps are required to participate in the Championship Golf Series as well as some chapter events. A handicap will also allow you to play in outside tournaments; many clubs and private tournaments require them.

How do I get a Handicap Index?

Since the handicap services comes with standard with your membership, all you have to do is activate your account and begin posting your scores. Note that it will take 5 18 hole rounds or 10 9-hole rounds of golf to create your initial handicap index.

How do I activate my EWGA GN21 System account?

  1. Go to the EWGA website, http://www.ewga.com/, and login to the Members Only area.

  2. On the left hand links, click on Handicap.

  3. Follow the instructions on the My Golf Life activation screen.

  4. Click here for a pdf outlining detailed steps.

What information do I need to post a score?

Normally the GN21 system will have our local golf courses listed; but just in case, you should keep a copy of the score card. You will need to know: Your score, did you play 9 holes or 18 holes, what tees did you play from (Slope and rating for the tees that you played from the course card).

Why Obtain A USGA Handicap Index?

The purpose of the USGA Handicap System is to make the game of golf more enjoyable by enabling players of differing abilities to compete on an equitable basis.

Having a handicap index allows golfers to participate in more events (those that require a handicap index), have a measureable means of tracking improvement, and allows score adjustments to even the playing field when playing with golfers of different skill levels.

All EWGA members have the opportunity to obtain an official USGA Handicap Index through EWGA GN21 at no additional cost.  Every member who is playing well enough to keep score is encouraged to obtain a Handicap Index through EWGA GN21.

Powered by GolfNet, GN21 is a full featured system that enables all members to obtain an official USGA handicap.

It also gives members the ability to:

  • Post scores
  • Access 20,000+  golf course profiles
  • Track personal game statistics
  • Print a handicap card
  • View scoring history
  • Attest scores for other members
  • Communicate with other members, and more

And best of all, it's free to all EWGA members!

EWGA members are invited to activate their GN21 account by clicking on Handicap and following the instructions for activation.

Keep in mind: Two basic premises underlie the USGA Handicap System, namely that each player will try to make the best score at every hole in every round, regardless of where the round is played, and that the player will post every acceptable round for peer review.
